A Wedding Website Is the New Wedding Invitation

You spent a weekend in Canva. The PDF is now lost in a group chat, cannot be updated and collects no RSVPs. There is a better wedding invitation.

A wedding invitation PDF lost in a WhatsApp group beside a wedding website showing every function with RSVP

You spent a weekend on it.

Canva open on the laptop, four fonts tried and rejected, the marigold border nudged three pixels left. Your sister vetoed version two. Version four was the one. You exported the PDF, sent it into the family group, and felt the small satisfaction of a job finished.

Six weeks later your cousin in Dubai is scrolling that same group, past forty forwards and a birthday video, looking for it. She gives up and messages you directly.

What time is the sangeet? And which hotel is the mehendi at?

Your wedding invitation is beautiful. It is also a picture, and a picture cannot answer a question.

What the PDF cannot do

It is not a design problem. Your invite probably looks lovely. It is that a flat file has five limits, and an Indian wedding walks into every one of them.

It gets lost. WhatsApp is a river. Your invitation went in six weeks ago and it is now two hundred messages upstream. Nobody is scrolling that far. They will ask you instead, and they will ask one at a time.

It cannot change. The sangeet moves to a different hall. Now you open Canva again, edit, export version five, and broadcast it. Two versions are circulating in family groups. Somebody drives to the old address.

It cannot collect a reply. There is nowhere to press. So you get "haan haan, aa jayenge" in a group chat, which is warm, sincere, and not a headcount.

It cannot hold your wedding. Five functions, five venues, five timings, five dress codes, five different guest lists. That does not fit on one page, so it becomes five images, or one crowded image, or a caption that people skim.

It cannot tell your guests apart. Your colleagues are invited to the reception. Your chachi is invited to all five days. They both receive the identical picture. A link paired with the right guest group shows each of them only the events they are actually invited to, which is something a forwarded image structurally cannot do.

A wedding invitation in 2026 has to do more than look good on the day it is sent. It has to still be useful six weeks later, at eleven at night, on somebody's phone.

So make the website the invitation

Not a website and an invitation. The website is the invitation.

You share a link. That link opens to your names, your date, every function with its own time and venue, what to wear to each one, how to get there, where to stay, and a button to say whether they are coming.

Print twenty or thirty cards for the grandparents and the buas, and carry them over with mithai. Everyone else, the other four hundred and seventy people, gets the link. It is searchable because it has one address. It is correct because you can edit it. And it replies, because it collects RSVPs.

Every function with its own time and venue, at one address that does not scroll away.

Your guests stop asking. Not because they became more resourceful, but because the wedding invitation finally answers.

Every function now has its own theme

Weddings stopped being one aesthetic repeated for three days. Couples theme each function separately now, and each theme has a palette.

A Saffron Mehendi in marigold orange and fuchsia, loud and festive. A Boho Haldi the next morning in turmeric, ivory and rattan, all easy linens and pampas. A Midnight Sangeet in deep navy and champagne gold. Then Temple Red for the wedding, red and gold at nine in the morning.

Four functions, four completely different colour worlds, in the same forty eight hours.

That is a lovely thing to plan. It is an impossible thing to put on a PDF.

Theme cards for Saffron Mehendi, Boho Haldi, Midnight Sangeet and Temple Red, each with its own colour palette
Saffron Mehendi, Boho Haldi, Midnight Sangeet, Temple Red. Each function with its own palette.

Because your guests cannot see a theme. They can only see a name and a time, and then they guess. So they message the bride, three weeks before her own wedding, to ask whether the sangeet is indo western or full traditional, whether they can wear red, whether it is a lehenga occasion or a saree occasion. A cousin flying from London is packing for five functions two months in advance and genuinely cannot do it without answers.

Give each function its theme and its palette on the wedding invitation itself, and the guessing stops.

Three things change. Guests dress to the theme instead of asking, because now they know what it is. You stop answering the same question for three months. And your photographs look completely different, because two hundred people arrived inside the palette rather than around it.

Guests flying in need the palette earliest of anyone. They are shopping and packing months ahead. A theme they learn a week before the wedding is a theme they cannot dress for.

Then the RSVPs, which are actually money

Catering and venue are 40 to 45% of an Indian wedding budget, and food is priced per plate. The average wedding now costs ₹39.5 lakh, up around 8% on last year.

Meanwhile no shows run 10 to 15% at the ceremony and 20 to 25% at the reception.

Most families cater every function off one guest list number and pad it, because nobody wants to under order. Here is the same wedding, guessed and then measured.

At ₹1,500 a plate that is ₹9.6 lakh, on a wedding where nobody went hungry. A PDF cannot give you that table. A wedding invitation with RSVPs hands it to you.

And the guest side stays simple. They tap once per function and get a confirmation they can change later using the same link, because plans move on their end too.

54% of Indian couples already prefer digital wedding invitations, from WedMeGood's 2025 to 2026 survey of more than 2,000 couples. 58.6% run their whole wedding on WhatsApp. The behaviour has moved. The format has not caught up.

What the first screen has to do

If the link is the invitation, the page it opens to has to do a card's job in the first five seconds, before anyone scrolls.

A card tells youYour first screen should show
Who is getting marriedBoth names, prominently, above the fold
The dateThe date, and if there are several functions, that there are several
That you are invitedA warm, direct line, not a template greeting
WhereThe city at minimum. Full venue details can live one click deeper

Everything past that first screen is where the website pulls ahead of anything a card could hold. But get the first screen wrong and the link reads as a website about your wedding rather than an invitation to it.

A template for every culture, and every vibe

The usual objection is that a website cannot feel personal the way a designed card does.

That is fair, and it is why we did not build three tasteful cream templates and call it a day. The Curated Knot has more than thirty, and they are built around actual weddings rather than a generic aesthetic.

For every culture. Kasavu for a Kerala wedding, off white with temple gold and palm green. Phulkari in coral and marigold for an Anand Karaj. Shubho Drishti in sindoor red and white for a Bengali wedding. Bandhani for Gujarati, Paithani for Marathi, Talambralu for Telugu. Nikah Noor in deep teal for a Nikah and Walima. Cathedral Ivory for a church wedding, Chuppah for a Jewish one, Gara for Parsi, Chinar for Kashmiri, Charbagh for a Mughal garden.

For every vibe. Celestial, a starfield for a night wedding. Neon Baraat, near black with neon pink, for couples whose sangeet is the main event. Deco Rendezvous in black and champagne gold. Cover Story, laid out like a fashion issue with a Bodoni masthead. Aquarelle in watercolour blues. Monsoon in slate and peacock teal.

Real templates from the gallery. More than thirty, free to start, each built for several days of functions.

Every one of them is free to start with. Pick the one that looks like your wedding, put your functions in, and share the link. It takes an evening, which is less than you spent on version four.
