Sand, Sea and Everyone We Love

Nisha and Aarav are getting married with their toes in the sand. It is a long way to come, we know — so we have made it a whole weekend: a sunset sangeet, a barefoot ceremony at golden hour, and nothing to do the morning after but swim.

How we washed up here

Our Story

December 2019

The Last Ferry Back

Two groups of friends, one sold-out ferry, and two people left standing at the jetty. We shared the last auto, the last two seats on the next boat, and a plate of fish curry that neither of us has stopped talking about.

2020 – 2025

Every Long Weekend

Goa, Gokarna, Varkala, Pondy — any beach with a cheap flight. She keeps a jar of sand from each one. He is not allowed to say how many jars there are.

February 2026

Back Where It Started

Same jetty, same sunset, a ring in a coconut shell. She said yes before he could get the shell open, and the ring nearly ended up in the sea.

Getting Here

Swaraj Dweep (still Havelock to everyone who lives there) is a ninety-minute ferry from Port Blair. Come a day early and slow down.

A white-sand cove under thick green forest

The Venue

The Wedding Venue — rooms by the beach, the mandap on the sand.

Flights

Fly into Port Blair (IXZ) from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi or Bengaluru. Morning flights connect best with the ferry.

The Ferry

We have booked seats on the sailings above. Pickups from the airport to the jetty are arranged.

What to Wear

Linen, cotton and anything you can get sandy. Chappals for everything — the ceremony is barefoot.

Island Days

Radhanagar

One of Asia’s loveliest beaches. Go for the sunset.

Snorkelling

Turtles and reef fish a few metres from the shore at Elephant Beach.

Kala Pathar

A quieter beach with black rocks and almost nobody else.

A Night Kayak

Paddle through the mangroves and watch the water glow.

Beach Rules

Barefoot at the Mandap

Leave your shoes at the steps. There will be a basket, and someone keeping an eye on it.

Reef-Safe Sunscreen

The coral here is fragile. We will have a few bottles at the welcome desk.

Look, Don’t Touch

Turtles, coral, shells — they all stay where they are.

Leave No Trace

There is a refill station for water bottles. Please skip the plastic.

Swim With a Buddy

Currents change with the tide. Stay between the flags when the lifeguards are out.

Patchy Signal

The island has spotty data. Download the schedule before the ferry.

Questions & Answers

Do I need a permit?

Indian citizens do not. Guests with foreign passports get a permit stamped on arrival at Port Blair — bring your passport.

What should I wear?

Light cottons and linens. The ceremony is barefoot on the sand, so leave the heels at home.

Is there vegetarian food?

Always — every meal has a full vegetarian spread next to the seafood.

What if the ferry is cancelled?

It happens in rough weather. We will move you to the next sailing and keep everyone posted on WhatsApp.

Can I bring a plus one?

Please check your invitation — if a guest is included, their name will be on it.

Still have a question?

Both families are happy to help — call or WhatsApp either of us.
