Nimantrana — you are invited

Two Families, One Painted Scroll

With the blessings of Mahaprabhu Jagannath and our elders, we invite you to the Bahaghara of Subhashree and Debasis. Come for the Mangana, stay for the lagna, and leave only after the last plate of chhena poda — the fish on our invitation is for good fortune, and the feast is for you.

Our Story

A Pattachitra is read panel by panel, left to right. Ours has three so far.

୧

July 2021

Rath Yatra, the Crowd on Bada Danda

Half a million people pulling three chariots down Grand Road, and somehow we were pushed into the same patch of shade. One shared bottle of water and a long argument about the best rasagola in Pahala later, neither of us remembered the chariots.

2022 – 2024

Letters, Then Long Calls

Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru is a two-hour flight or a thirty-hour train, and we tried both. We counted the distance in festivals — Raja, Kumar Purnima, Durga Puja — and in the number of times our mothers asked if we were "just friends".

୩

Spring 2026

The Nirbandha

Betel leaves, a coconut, two families in one drawing room and a priest with his panjika open on his knee. Our word was given, the lagna was fixed, and the aunties began planning the menu before the tea was poured.

Travel & Stay

Bhubaneswar has more temples than traffic lights. Land a day early if you can — the light on the old stone at dusk is worth the extra night.

What to Wear

Questions & Answers

The lagna is that late?

Yes — 11:42 PM, as the panjika fixed it. Dinner is served from 8 PM and the band keeps everyone awake.

What should I wear?

Yellow for the Mangana, your finest silk for the wedding night — Sambalpuri, Bomkai and Khandua weaves are very welcome.

Is the food vegetarian?

The wedding-night dinner is fully vegetarian, as is tradition. The Bhoji the next day has a fish course for those who have waited all weekend for it.

Can I bring a plus one?

Please check your invitation — if a guest is included, their name will be on it.

Are children welcome?

Of course. The Kauri Khela needs a loud audience and children are the loudest.

Still have a question?

Both families are happy to help — call or WhatsApp either of us.
