Come Up the Mountain With Us

Ishani and Vir are getting married where the snow comes down to the door. There will be a fire going all weekend, cocoa on tap, and a lodge full of the people we love. All you have to do is get here — we will handle the rest.

you will want to hold a cup outside

Our Story

Base camp · 1,950 m

A Snowed-In Train

December 2020

The toy train stopped halfway up with snow on the tracks. Four hours, one thermos of chai and a shared pair of gloves later, we had swapped numbers and invented a card game.

Midway · 2,650 m

Every Winter Since

2021 – 2025

A trip to the hills every December — some years skiing, mostly falling over, always ending in front of a fire arguing about whose turn it was to fetch the cocoa.

Summit · 3,980 m

At the Top of the Gondola

January 2026

Phase two of the gondola, minus eight degrees, and a ring he had been warming in his pocket for an hour. She said yes and then asked if they could please go back down.

Three days, one lodge

The Weekend

Cocoa & Mehendi

The day before · 3:00 PM

The lodge lounge

Henna by the big fireplace, cocoa with marshmallows, and the first snowball fight of the weekend.

Sangeet in the Lodge

The day before · 8:00 PM

The Wedding Venue

Both families, one dance floor, and a lot of rehearsed routines. Wear shoes you can dance in.

Haldi in the Sun

19 ஏப்ரல், 2027 · 9:30 AM

The front lawn

Outside while the sun is out. Expect turmeric on the snow — and on you.

The Pheras

19 ஏப்ரல், 2027 · 12:30 PM

Under the glass canopy

Seven rounds at the warmest hour of the day, with the peaks behind us. Heaters on, shawls handed out.

Bonfire Reception

The Wedding Venue

Dinner indoors, then out to the bonfire under the stars. Mulled drinks for anyone still standing.

Getting up the mountain

Getting Up Here

Gulmarg sits at 2,650 metres. Roads close sometimes in heavy snow, so plan to arrive a day early and take it slow.

A red gondola cabin above pine forest and snowy peaks

The Venue

The Wedding Venue — the lodge, the canopy and the bonfire lawn, all a short walk apart.

Getting Here

Fly into Srinagar (SXR). It is about two hours by road; we are running shuttles both days.

Where to Stay

The lodge is booked for the families. Guest rooms are held at two hotels a five-minute walk away.

The Weather

Around five degrees by day and well below zero at night. Every room has a heater and extra blankets.

If You Have a Spare Morning

The Gondola

Phase one to Kongdori, phase two to Apharwat — go early before the queues.

Sledging

Hire a wooden sledge and a puller at the bottom of the meadow. Undignified and wonderful.

St Mary’s Church

A little stone church from 1902, standing alone in the snow.

A Ski Lesson

Instructors at the base will have you upright in an hour. Mostly upright.

The weekend, graded

The Trail Map

Every part of the weekend, marked like a ski run — so you know what you are getting into, and what to wear for it.

Cocoa & Mehendi

Indoors, by the fire. Sit back and let someone else do the henna.

Beginner
The Sangeet

Some choreography required. The aunties have been practising since March.

Intermediate
Haldi in the Sun

Outdoors, but short. Wear something you never want to see again.

Intermediate
The Pheras

An hour outside under the canopy at noon. Layers under your silks.

Advanced
The Bonfire After-Party

Minus six, past midnight, and the cousins are in charge of the music.

Experts only

no one gets left on the mountain

Questions & Answers

How cold will it be?

Around five degrees by day and minus five or lower at night. Every room has a heater.

Is the ceremony outdoors?

Under a heated glass canopy on the lawn, at noon when it is warmest. Shawls will be handed out.

What if it snows heavily?

The roads sometimes close for a few hours. Come a day early, and we will keep everyone posted on WhatsApp.

Will the altitude affect me?

Some people feel a headache on the first day. Drink water, go easy, and talk to your doctor if you are unsure.

Can I bring a plus one?

Please check your invitation — if a guest is included, their name will be on it.

Still have a question?

Both families are happy to help — call or WhatsApp either of us.
