Saeen, you are invited

Every Square of This Quilt Is Family

A ralli is sewn by many hands, one square at a time, and so is a Sindhi wedding. With the blessings of Jhulelal and our elders, we invite you to the wedding of Komal and Hiten — come for the Saanth, stay for the pheras, and do not leave before the dal pakwan the morning after.

with love, both our families

The Quilt of Rituals

A Sindhi wedding has a ritual for every step. Here is how the quilt comes together.

The first word

Kachi Misri

The two families exchange misri and a coconut — the promise, sweetened.

The engagement

Pakki Misri

Rings, gifts and blessings, and the date is set in front of everyone.

Before the wedding

Berana Satsang

Prayers to Jhulelal with the berana — a plate of flour lamps — sung by the family.

The day before

Saanth

Oil poured by seven married women, a clay lamp broken underfoot, and the groom’s kurta torn by his friends for luck.

The day before

Saagri

The groom’s family covers the bride in flowers — a shawl and jewellery made entirely of blooms.

The wedding

Hathiyalo

The couple’s hands are tied together with a sacred thread before the pheras.

The wedding

The Pheras

Rounds around the sacred fire, the promises spoken, and the families cheering each one.

At the new home

Datar

The couple pass salt between their hands three times — so they mix as easily as salt in water.

The morning after

Dal Pakwan

Not technically a ritual. Absolutely compulsory.

How the first squares were sewn

Our Story

Spring 2022

Cheti Chand, the Tahiri Queue

The Jhulelal procession, the dhol, and a very long queue for tahiri. She was handing it out; he went back for thirds. His mother noticed before either of them did.

Autumn 2025

Kachi Misri

Two families, one box of misri and a coconut, and a drawing room that has never been so full. Somebody started singing. Nobody remembers who stopped.

Spring 2026

Pakki Misri by the Sea

The rings, the date, and then all of us walking down Marine Drive at midnight because nobody wanted the evening to end. It is a family habit now.

Questions & Answers

Why do I need old clothes?

At the Saanth the groom’s friends tear his kurta for good luck — wear something you will not miss.

What should I wear to the pheras?

Your finest festive wear. Bright colours are very welcome; so are ajrak shawls.

Is the food vegetarian?

The wedding meal is vegetarian. The Sindhi biryani at the Saagri & Sangeet is not, and it is clearly marked.

Can I bring a plus one?

Please check your invitation — if a guest is included, their name will be on it.

Are children welcome?

Of course. The dal pakwan breakfast is basically for them.

Still have a question?

Both families are happy to help — call or WhatsApp either of us.
